Proposed

Beard-Bonner Professor of Constitutional Law

at

Florida State University College of Law

As stated by Dr. Walter E. Williams, “Many of our nation’s colleges and universities have become cesspools of indoctrination, intolerance, academic dishonesty and the new racism.” This criticism applies to both public and private law schools, where many do not require reading the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution; instead, students read cases and listen to lectures by Professors who despise the American Founders, believing the Constitution to be “imperfect and highly objectionable.”

As a result of so-called Constitutional Scholars like Professor Laurence Tribe at Harvard Law School, we now have a Chief Justice, John Roberts, who stated during his confirmation hearings that “my job is to call balls and strikes.” No, it’s not! Not in a Free Republic! Justice Bradley understood, “It is the duty of courts to be watchful for the constitutional rights of the citizens, and against any stealthy encroachments [by Congress and Government].”

I contacted Florida State University College of Law regarding my desire to create and teach a unique course in Constitutional Law – Choose Freedom, Not Slavery. I started preparing the Course based upon the text that the Law School uses, sending them the first 28-pages. The Course Modules only covered the first 25-pages of the current text for Constitutional Law I, which represented a rebuttal to the Authors of the text, who appeared to dislike the U.S. Constitution and have very little respect for our Founders.

My objective is to approach the teaching of Constitutional Law much differently than currently being taught by Constitutional Scholars like Laurence Tribe, who find our constitution “. . . imperfect, and . . . highly objectionable.” Tribe also referred to the Founders as a “highly limited constituency of white property owners . . . with whom most [Americans] have only the most limited link (if any at all), [who decided] to limit our future freedom to exercise power.” Professor Tribe used “esoteric hermeneutics” to rationalize expansive powers for the government assuming his students, and average Americans, lacked the ability to think critically. He used the word “freedom” instead of the word “ability” i.e. the Founders tried to limit the future ability of elected officials, democratic majorities, and enthusiastic minorities, including Congress, from exercising power to limit the freedom of their fellow citizens. Tribe attempted to make his students believe that our Founders were trying to limit our freedom, which is preposterous; the Founders were attempting to limit the ability of government to restrict individual freedom.

It is my goal to educate young lawyers to think critically, so that when they embark on their careers, they will continue to challenge the constitutionality of statutes, regulations, and administrative rules that interfere, reduce, or eliminate individual rights, the right to earn a living; and, excessive regulation and taxation of private property.

In order to accomplish this objective, it is necessary to create an Endowed Chair or Professorship, which would require a minimum of $500,000 to over $1,000,000. As much as I’d like to entice several large donors, I’d rather have 10,000-to-20,000 FSU Alumni, friends of FSU, and others interested in the legal education of our youth, willing to contribute $50-to-$100 each.

If you are interested in helping me with this project, please leave your name, email address, any association with Florida State University; and, how much money you may be willing to contribute. There is no obligation. Your tentative commitment will help us decide how to move forward.

To see an example of the stark contrast between the course I would prepare and teach versus what is being taught at Florida State University School of Law and many other law schools, click here to visit our Constitutional Law Course - Choose Freedom, Not Slavery Page.

This proposed course would be an elective, with the goal to make it available online for all law schools throughout the State of Florida, then nationwide.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Robert G. Beard Jr., C.P.A., C.G.M.A., J.D., LL.M.
